I grew up on a farm in Pasquotank County, NC and later moved south of the Albemarle Sound into Tyrrell County. Today, I work here as a farmer, seed grower and photographer. My wife Terrie and I operate Southern Dreams Gallery in Columbia. In our gallery, besides the promotion of my own work, I try to bring attention to the artwork of other artists I admire and the beauty of our rural American landscape. The "Farm Series Exhibit" is the beginning of my photographic essay on the American farm, an exploration of its beauty and history and many complex social, technical and environmental issues of agriculture today. It really is amazing to look back on how much has changed in my lifetime and to think about what will happen in the future. It could make an interesting story. So, I should never run out of work. I hope I will have the health and the means to continue it for many years.

Curwood Harrison grew up on a farm in the little community of Old Trap, located at the lower end of Camden county, NC. He spent countless hours in the woods and rivers of this rural setting which were to form his love of wildlife and all things country which now are the principle subjects of his watercolor paintings.
After graduation from high school in 1955, he gave up any thoughts of entering the art field as a career. It wasn’t until thirty years later that he decided to give art another try and bought his first paints. Looking for a good teacher, he learned that Robert Clontz of Smithfield, VA taught watercolor painting. He spent the next three years in Clontz’s classes learning all he could about painting in watercolor.
Curwood retired from civil service in February of 1992 and began to paint full time. Encouraged by sales that more than tripled those in 1991, he decided to enter the print market as well. His first limited edition print soon sold out.
He has received numerous ribbons and awards throughout his career and a number of his paintings hang in Nations Bank, New South Bank, Wachovia Bank, and the Pamlico Orthopedic Association in Washington, NC, in private collections and business offices as well as in foreign countries. Curwood has also had his paintings appear on the NC Wildlife Calendar. He has made an appearance on Channel 3, WTKR in Norfolk, VA as a guest artist to promote the Ahoskie Chicken fest. The artist and his work have been the subject of two eastern North Carolina newspaper articles and a half page article in Carolina County Magazine.
He finds that meeting the public is as stimulating as painting itself and therefore participates in many art shows in North Carolina and Virginia such as the East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival in Washington, NC, the Rappahannock River Wildlife Show in White Stone, VA, the Currituck, NC Wildlife Art Show, the Lake Country Wildlife Art Festival in South Hill, VA. He also has had several one man shows in Virginia and North Carolina.
He is a member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina.
Curwood maintains a studio in his home in Burlington, NC and always welcomes inquiries about his originals and prints. Originals and prints are also for sale at The Framery, a frame shop and gallery in Elizabeth City. In Burlington contact Silver Eagle Picture Framing or the Gallery, downtown Burlington for prints.
